Part of class action reinstated by court

A federal appeals court has reinstated part of a class action shareholders lawsuit against Kansas City-based tax preparer H&R Block. The lawsuit was consolidated from nine separate class actions filed against the company in state and federal court. The lawsuits came after the company in 2005 and again in 2006 restated several years' worth of earnings. The company was also sued by California authorities over its loan refund program, and by New York over the marketing of its Express Individual Retirement Account program.

Court affirms ban on Bibles given at school

Both sides are claiming victory in a lawsuit over distributing Bibles in a public school. The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday upheld a permanent injunction prohibiting the distribution of Bibles to students at an elementary school in southeastern Missouri. For about 30 years, school officials at South Iron Elementary School have allowed representatives of Gideons International to distribute Bibles to fifth-graders.
