St. Louis sign code debated at 8th Circuit

One person’s protest mural is one city’s illegal sign. Lawyers for activist Jim Roos and the city of St. Louis were before a panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday morning arguing about the constitutionality of the city’s sign code.

Years-long dispute over fate of historic locomotive chugs on

It's a business arrangement that dates back nearly 60 years, and a court fight that's been going since 2002, over a century-old train engine. The St. Louis County Museum of Transportation and a historic railway organization can't agree on who's in charge of a 1905 locomotive. The New Jersey-based railway group permanently loaned the train piece to the museum in 1953 but several years ago asked for it back and was rebuffed.

‘Litigation machinery’ forecloses arbitration

Attorney John Campbell opened an e-mail alert from the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday morning with some apprehension. At stake was his class action lawsuit against a payday lender that wanted the matter to be arbitrated. And while Campbell thought he had a sensible argument against arbitration, it was a "close call based on the law that existed."
