Judicial commissioners elected

Lawyers in the Western District have selected Kansas City attorney J.R. Hobbs (pictured) for a position on the Appellate Judicial Commission. In results finalized Saturday, the St. Louis and Jackson County circuit courts also announced new attorney members. Steven L. Groves will join the commission for 22nd Circuit. Scott Bethune was elected to the judicial commission that selects nominees for vacancies in the 16th Circuit. Meanwhile, attorneys Richard Wuestling IV and Matthew Rossiter will be facing off in a runoff election for a position on the St. Louis County Circuit Judicial Commission.

Brown & Crouppen considers moving to upscale office space

Personal injury firm Brown & Crouppen is mulling a move to Metropolitan Square in downtown St. Louis. Managing partner Ron Brown confirmed the law firm is close to a deal on space at Met Square and said it could be announced this week.

Voters’ rights apply to CID elections

When the legislative session begins in January, lawmakers may want to fix the state law that allows property owners to set up community improvement districts.

Senior U.S. District Judge E. Richard Webber declared part of that law unconstitutional this week because it imposes fewer restrictions on a certain class of voters - those who own property in the community improvement district but don't live there. The case before Webber involved the Robinwood West Community Improvement District (subdivision pictured), which is in west St. Louis County.

Prosecutors, judges consider changes to state statutes, procedures

Kevin Kelly, a municipal judge in Richmond Heights and a defense lawyer for people accused of drunken driving, speaks on Wednesday at a summit on Missouri's DWI laws in Jefferson City.

Gov. Jay Nixon renewed his commitment to revamping the state's driving while intoxicated statutes. But the first-term governor said that finding common ground on the substance of those changes wouldn't be a simple task.
