Dameron named as AG’s chief of staff

Stueve Siegel Hanson attorney Matthew Dameron is the new chief of staff to Attorney General Chris Koster. Koster made the announcement today that Dameron will replace Robert Kenney, who was recently appointed by Gov. Jay Nixon to the Public Service Commission. As chief of staff, Dameron will oversee the daily operations of the AG office.

Bond backs Sotomayor

Missouri Sen. Kit Bond is the latest Republican senator to back Judge Sonia Sotomayor for a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court. Speaking on the Senate floor this morning, Bond said while he endorses Sotomayor it "does not mean that I support the way Judge Sotomayor approaches judging." He cited several Sotomayor opinions he disagrees with, including the Ricci firefighter case. However, Bond said he believes "that Judge Sotomayor has proven herself a well qualified jurist."

Major businesses can’t join sewer suit

A group of seven businesses in Missouri, including giants Anheuser-Busch, Monsanto and Boeing Co., were again denied a motion to intervene in a Clean Water Act enforcement action filed against the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District by the federal and state governments, according to a federal appeals court ruling Monday. The United States and the state of Missouri filed a complaint alleging the St. Louis sewer district discharged raw sewage into local waterways from 2000 to 2005.

Is Obama eyeing McCaskill?

Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill's name is popping up on blogs as a possible replacement for Justice David Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court. McCaskill played a prominent role in President Obama's campaign (here, she is seen during a campaign stop in Springfield). She is listed as a personal favorite for the spot by U.S. News and World Report columnist and former George H.W. Bush speechwriter Mary Kate Cary.

Koster investigating Craigslist ads

Attorney General Chris Koster said he intends to meet with Craigslist representatives tomorrow in New York City to express his concerns about what he says are advertisements for prostitution. Koster is representing a group of the nation's attorneys general, which includes attorneys general from Illinois and Connecticut. Koster (shown here in a file photo) said his office has been investigating the site and wants to reach an agreement with Craigslist to stop displaying ads for "illegal erotic activities."
