8th Circuit rejects excessive force, illegal search claims
Civil rights lawyer W. Bevis Schock (pictured) lost another appeal in a lawsuit filed against the south St. Louis County city of Bella Villa and its chief of police, Edward Locke Jr. On Monday, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a summary judgment and jury verdict in favor of Locke and the city in a lawsuit filed by William and Mary Lou Cavataio. The Cavataios alleged Locke used excessive force when he arrested William Cavataio, then 75, and that he squeezed Mary Lou Cavataio's left breast as she was about to drive her husband to the hospital.
