Twitter says it hasn’t settled La Russa’s ‘unnecessary’ lawsuit

Despite media reports that St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has settled his trademark infringement lawsuit against Twitter, the micro-blogging service is saying that isn't so. Court records indicate that the lawsuit is pending. In fact, Twitter filed a motion on Friday to move the lawsuit to federal court. Co-founder of Twitter, Biz Stone, wrote on the Web site's blog on Saturday that Twitter had not settled nor plans to settle with La Russa.

La Russa scores win after Twitter error

St. Louis Cardinals manager and lawyer Tony La Russa hopes to end his legal battle with Twitter this week. In early May, La Russa filed a lawsuit against the "micro-blogging" Web site alleging a trademark infringement when it failed to remove an anonymous account posing as La Russa. The fake Twitter account had a picture of La Russa and used his name, making it appear that he was the one responsible for the postings. The account's "tweets," or postings, made derogatory comments toward La Russa and the Cardinals.
