People have different reasons for volunteering, but whatever their reasons, more St. Charles County residents appear to be donating their time and labor these days. That’s not surprising given the fact many people still haven’t been able to find work.

A new effort to address the growing problem of foreclosures is under way in St. Charles County.

After deliberating a day and a half, a Platte County jury awarded $11.75 million on Dec. 17 to family members of two men who died and a man who was injured in a May 2007 hot water pipe explosion at Kansas City Power & Light’s Iatan power plant.

It was anything but a pleasure for Don Kleinhans Jr. of Clearwater, Fla., to sit through a litany of complaints against the new business he brought to town. Kleinhans was appealing the decision by the city of Pevely to deny him a merchant’s license.
