Judge says ‘Internet medium’ doesn’t change DIY legal forms

Has the Internet really changed the “do-it-yourself” legal landscape? Not really, says a federal judge overseeing an impending trial in Missouri against LegalZoom, one of the country’s largest online legal document services. LegalZoom faces a class action lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Jefferson City, which is set for trial beginning Aug. 22. The plaintiffs claim LegalZoom’s business constitutes the unlawful practice of law, and they are seeking statutory damages of three times the amount the plaintiffs paid to have documents prepared.

Fashion photos filched?

Another reality show has run afoul of a St. Louis area photographer. In a lawsuit filed Friday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis, Marcie Cobbaert claims that “Project Runway” contestant and designer Laura Kathleen Planck and Lifetime have used at least four of the fashion photographer’s photographs on the show’s website without licensing them. Lifetime airs the show.

Former political operative indicted in 2008 parking garage bombing

Milton H. “Skip” Ohlsen III has been indicted for the 2008 bombing in the Carondelet Plaza parking garage that injured Clayton attorney John L. Gillis. A federal grand jury indicted the 39-year-old last week on one felony count each of transporting an explosive device with intent to injure, maliciously using an explosive device, using a destructive device to commit a crime of violence, being a felon in possession of an explosive and possessing an unregistered destructive device.
