Federal prosecutors in Kansas City for the first time in their office's recent turbulent history could see one of their own at the helm. President Barack Obama on Wednesday announced his nomination of Beth Phillips, an assistant U.S. attorney in Kansas City, to serve as the permanent U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri. Phillips has spent a total of roughly five years as a prosecutor in Kansas City and worked in private civil practice for seven years.
