Ed Martin announces his run for Congress

Ed Martin, St. Louis attorney and former chief of staff to ex-Gov, Matt Blunt, announced on Wednesday that he is running for Congress. Martin is taking on Democrat Russ Carnahan, who is seeking his fourth term in November 2010 to represent the 3rd Congressional District. As Blunt's chief of staff, Martin led coordinated efforts by the governor's office to call for reform of the Missouri Nonpartisan Court Plan, according to e-mails obtained by Missouri Lawyers Media. Among the changes touted were bringing more openness to the selection process.

Jefferson County selected to recognize Obama record

Jefferson County will be on center stage as President Barack Obama makes a stop on Wednesday to mark his 100th day in office. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs confirmed during his afternoon briefing April 21 that President Obama will celebrate the milestone in Jefferson County. Festus City Administrator Steve Stoll said the last time a president visited Jefferson County was Bill Clinton during the floods of 1993. Arnold Mayor Ron Counts confirmed that someone from Obama's office has contacted both City Hall and the Fox C-6 School District about possible venues.

Carnahan finds hope in stimulus package

U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-Missouri, was in Festus on Monday to gain public support for the stimulus package proposed by President Barack Obama. The stimulus bill passed in the House last month and the Senate passed their version this week. Negotiations continue on a compromise between the two bills. Carnahan got plenty of support from a number of local leaders and state representatives, including Rep. Jeff Roorda, D-Barnhart, Rep. Ron Casey, D-Crystal City, County Executive Chuck Banks and Festus Mayor Earl Cook during a standing room only crowd at Festus City Hall.
