To look upon Sam Stang's intricately patterned vessels with their luminescent colors is to contemplate rare beauty. The word exquisite comes to mind. Stang's work, with clear evidence of its roots in the Italian tradition of glassblowing, is nationally acclaimed and has been shown in major exhibitions throughout the country.
All of his pieces are produced "hot at the furnace" at his studio, a remodeled auto repair garage, in the rustic town of Augusta. The process can be painstaking. Incalmo, for example, is a technically complex and physically demanding technique developed by Venetian master glassblowers. It is a process that Stang has learned to master.
