BAMSL plans luncheon to honor Judge Price

William Ray Price Jr.

The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis will honor retiring Missouri Supreme Court Judge William Ray Price Jr. with a luncheon at noon Aug. 17 at the Hilton at the Ballpark Hotel. Price is scheduled to retire on Aug. 1.

BAMSL will present to Price the Champion of Justice Award for his dedication to judicial excellence and his steadfast support of the Missouri Plan as well as for his role in establishing drug courts and reforming sentencing guidelines. He is the longest-serving judge on the Missouri Supreme Court and twice served as chief justice during his tenure.

Price has stated that one of the reasons he chose to retire at this time is so that his successor can be named under the Missouri Plan before it is changed — if it is changed. The earliest referendum on changing the plan would be the November 2012 elections. BAMSL has come out as against this constitutional amendment and encourages everyone to vote against it.

The luncheon is open to BAMSL members and the general public. Reservations are required in advance and admission is $50 per person, $500 for a table of 10, or $1,000 for a Champion Table (includes a full-page ad in the program book).

Members can make reservations through the BAMSL website, www.bamsl.org, and nonmembers can make reservations by contacting Stephen Campbell at 314-421-4134 or [email protected].
