Guy’s trademarks suit settles for $1.3M

At least one of the lawsuits over Guy's snack food brands is over. A federal judge in Kansas City on Wednesday dismissed a trademark lawsuit over the brands after approving a settlement Aug. 27. FlyBy Capital, a company formed to buy brands including Guy's, Krunchees and Tortz, reached the agreement with the trustees for the bankrupt Heartland Snacks, the former owner of the trademarks, and its holding company.

Bryan Cave paying new associates to stay home

Bryan Cave is offering some would-be incoming associates payment in lieu of starting work at the firm. The firm is taking steps to ensure would-be associates "have resources to assist them during this time," said a letter from Dennis Fleischmann, a member of Bryan Cave's management committee. The firm's measures will vary from office to office, the letter said. That could mean that lawyers slated to start in Missouri offices would be offered less than those who would start at other offices; starting salaries are lower in Missouri than at the firm's offices in bigger markets, such as New York.
