37 applicants seek St. Louis County judgeship

Thirty-seven people want to be a circuit judge in St. Louis County.

Judge James R. Hartenbach retired earlier this year; lawyers and associate circuit judges alike are vying for his vacant seat. According to the 21st Judicial Circuit Commission, which selects three nominees for judgeships in the county, the 37 applicants represent the following demographic groups: 13 women, 24 men, six minorities, 31 nonminorities, 16 private sector employees and 21 public sector employees. The applicants’ mean age is 52.

The commission will meet Dec. 19 and Dec. 20 in Division 15 of the St. Louis County Courthouse to interview the applicants. To learn the time and date of their interviews, applicants may email [email protected] or call Missouri Court of Appeals Chief Judge Kurt Odenwald’s chambers at 314-539-4341.
