Shook Hardy on list for best law firms for women

Shook, Hardy & Bacon was one of 50 firms in the U.S. selected as one the best law firms for supporting and advancing women lawyers.

The Kansas City defense firm was the only Missouri-based firm selected in the study conducted by the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) and Flex-Time Lawyers. Firms were scored by Working Mother Research Institute. The study’s results were released today.

About 100 firms completed the study. The groups conducting the study say the winning firms offer internal networking groups for women lawyers and business development and networking training. They also offer flexible schedules. Firms were not ranked within the 50 selected.

The study notes that 24 percent of Shook’s equity partners are women, 22 percent of the firm’s nonequity partners are female and 9 percent of all the firm’s lawyers have reduced work hours.

Firms answered questions on workforce, time off and leave, child care, flexibility, leadership, compensation, retention and advancement, among other issues. All data is for 2010.

Shook, Hardy & Bacon generated about $337 million in gross revenue last year, ranking second in Missouri Lawyers Weekly’s list of the state’s largest firms.
