Tax credit law to be argued at Supreme Court

The act is what allowed developer Paul McKee and his Northside Regeneration to receive $28 million in tax credits in the past two years for his plan to redevelop a large swath of North St. Louis. The two taxpayers, both residents of the project area, contend the law violates the state constitution’s prohibition against granting or lending public money to private entities. The state and Northside Regeneration argue that the constitution clearly allows tax credits to be granted to private entities for public purposes — and that here the public purpose is the redevelopment of North St. Louis.
