With snow falling heavily across Missouri, many courthouses have called it quits for the day and are waiting to see what tomorrow brings.

In addition, Missouri Chief Justice William Ray Price Jr.’s annual address to the state Legislature has been postponed due to the ice and snow blasting the state, according to House and court staff.  Price was to address a joint session of the House and Senate tomorrow morning.

The speech is expected to be rescheduled, but a new time hasn’t been set yet.

Among the closures are circuit courts in the city of St. Louis, St. Louis County, Jackson County, Greene County and Boone County.

The St. Charles County Courthouse and county government offices will close at noon today, according to information released by county spokesman John Sonderegger.

Jackson County offices, located inside the Jackson County Courthouse, will close at noon because of inclement weather, county spokesman Dan Ferguson said. County officials will decide early Wednesday morning whether to close offices on Wednesday, as well.

The federal district court in St. Louis will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and many of the court’s offices are operating with a skeleton crew, according to the court’s website.

County workers clear the steps and sidewalks outside the Jackson County Courthouse in Kansas City during Tuesday’s snowstorm.

The federal court in Kansas City was also open today, said Paige Wymore-Wynn, the court’s chief administrative officer.

The Missouri Court of Appeals Western District in Kansas City was to close at noon today, said Court Clerk Terence Lord. No oral arguments were scheduled for Tuesday, but the court did issue opinions. The Division 2 docket remains scheduled for Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

The Eastern District Court of Appeals is closed today and has canceled oral arguments. It also issued opinions.

The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is open today and plans to be open tomorrow, said Court Clerk Michael Gans. The clerk’s office is operating with a skeleton crew of about six, he said.
