Judge takes fight against fatal disease to the national level

Jay Daugherty sees hope of treatment for ALS sufferers

A Missouri judge who turned anger over his father’s death into a lifelong search for a cure for Lou Gehrig’s Disease now will help lead a national organization with the same aspiration. The ALS Association National Board of Trustees recently elected Jackson County Judge Jay Daugherty as chairman. The group fundraises and lobbies for research surrounding amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, whose best-known victim was baseball star Lou Gehrig. “It’s an unforgivable disease, and it seems particularly cruel,” Daugherty said.
