Federal judges appointed a merit selection panel to recommend a successor to U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas Mummert III of St. Louis, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri announced Wednesday.

Baseball fans from near and far will crowd downtown St. Louis next week for the All-Star game, but U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas Mummert III will have to miss the action. He'll be in Milwaukee where he will become the next president of the Federal Magistrate Judges Association. Mummert, 58, is in his 14th year of serving as a magistrate judge in the U.S. District Court in St. Louis. His is one of the names being talked about to replace U.S. District Judge E. Richard Webber, who took senior status at the end of June.
